More Info about Craig!

Craig Zuger is a lifelong resident of the Willamette Valley in Oregon where he lives with his wife Yolanda and their brood of animals. The hundred acre piece of land they own is part of a cooperative project with Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and the White Oak Restoration program to restore the historic landscape of the area. Craigs studio is here, and he can easily be inspired to paint. In 1980 Craig was commissioned to paint a portrait of the Israeli Defense Minister, Moshe Dayan which was presented to him at the closing of his lecture at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. In 1981, Craig was enlisted by an expedition to take part in the recreation of the homeward bound route of the Lewis and Clark journey. Beginning at Fort Clatsop on the Oregon coast and ending in St. Louis, MO., the trip would take six months to complete, traveling entirely by canoe and horseback. Apart from his duties in the expedition, his personal agenda was to photograph the land and its wildlife to be used later in his artistic pursuits. While assisting a friend of his with two episodes of the Oregon Public Broadcast program “Oregon Field Guide”, Craig was able to interest the producers in a segment about Oregon wildlife painters. The producers took his suggestion of nationally known wildlife artist Terry Isacc and water color painter Susan Bourdet, and then added Craig to the piece as an artist to watch. Craig’s works have been shown at Lawrence Galleries, Soda Creek Gallery, Elsinore Gallery and Criterion Gallery. Craig is currently and exclusively represented by Mockingbird Gallery in Bend, Oregon. Craig is also a member of the Oil Painters of America and Landscape Artists International. Craig’s deep love of wildlife and respect for the environment has given him inspiration and a wellspring of subjects to paint. Primarily a landscape painter, Craig often places animals in a scene or he may choose to make the animal the main focus. Additional works can be seen at www.mockingbird-gallery.com
